For some, praxis involves doing. For others, praxis involves un/doing. The In Praxis Collective hopes to be a regenerative and restorative space for those interested in the latter, those committed to learning and using what they learn to unsettle and trouble the status quo.
The idea for this collective has arrived at a time when some of us who are involved in the un/doing continue to be met with the boundaries of the institutional and systemic walls that we work and study within. It arrives at a time when our questions and our expectations are often positioned as out of scope or too radical to be housed by such walls and the people who uphold them. This position is not new, we have inherited it from those who have been here before us. It is a place where we find each other, and a place that will remain. It is both useful and necessary to join others in doing something – together – in and with this place that is committed to the un/doing.
The collective begins with an awareness of, and willingness to learn about ongoing and interlocking systems and processes of domination and oppression, as well as the struggles for freedom and the movements that are dedicated to resistance and liberation. We all have much to learn and share. In a world of silos and segregation, bringing praxis together is a form of resistance; the collective intentionally does not bracket the praxis we do (and do not) welcome, so long as your praxis is committed to the ongoing struggle for liberation and justice.
Some of the ideas for the collective include slow reading and writing gatherings, arts-based practices, in-conversation screenings, forums… This space is grassroots, and in its early days. It will keep becoming what we want and need it to be, and will be shaped by our collective praxis. If you have any ideas you would like to share with the collective, please get in touch! Gatherings and projects to be announced.
